ABOUT
Stand UP USA
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to improving mental health and preventing suicide within the United States Air Force through its Home Base Program.
MISSION & HISTORY.
We were sitting around a picnic table on July 4, 2019, speaking with an officer of the United States Air Force, Jeremy Pankoski. Jeremy pointed out that the first few years after leaving a parents' home can be taxing for young men and young women.
If you add on the physical and mental rigors of Air Force training and service, this time for airmen can be challenging, often resulting in feelings of overwhelming stress, moments of loneliness and homesickness, and doubt in themselves, their abilities, and what they could contribute to the Air Force.
With the increasing access to electronics and hand-held telecommunication devices, airmen spend more and more time by themselves, alone in their dorms, creating situations of increased isolation and the accompanying issues of depression, anxiety and suicidal ideation.
The airmen have little to no engagement with one another or their community. Jeremy suggested that we utilize our resources to promote a program geared toward integrating airmen into the local community.
